  3.     IMPRISONED. Bernhard Goetz, 41, the so-called Subway Vigilante
  4. who shot four black youths in New York City in December 1984; for
  5. unlawfully possessing a weapon; under protective custody in the
  6. city's Rikers Island jail. Goetz, who claimed that he was about to
  7. be robbed, was acquitted in 1987 of attempted murder but was
  8. convicted of illegal gun possession. After appeal he was
  9. resentenced to one year. He could be paroled in 51 days.
